You can help yourself and your friends avoid a DUI charge and the consequences that come with it by practicing safe partying this New Year’s Eve. Here are a few tips:
- Make plans early. If you’re planning to go out for New Year’s, decide how you’re going to get home before you leave. Will you take public transportation, call a cab, rely on a designated driver, or use another method? With a sober ride home in place, you can enjoy the party without exposing yourself to a DUI arrest.
- Use your cell phone. Punch in the numbers of a few local cab companies before you head to a New Year’s party. You’ll have a backup plan if you need a ride, and you’ll also be able to call a cab for anyone else who looks like they shouldn’t be driving.
- Host responsibly. If you host a New Year’s party, you can help your guests avoid Colorado drunk driving charges as well. Stop serving alcohol at least one hour before the party is due to end, and keep an eye on your guests; call a cab or give guests a place to crash for the night if you think they’ve had too many drinks.
